The main cause of periodontal disease is bacteria in the mouth combined with poor dental hygiene. There are also underlying health issues and daily lifestyle choices which also contribute to gum disease. Some of the common symptoms of gum disease include: bleeding, swollen gums, bad breath, dry mouth, receding gums, and loose teeth. We diagnose periodontal disease through examination and radiographs (x-rays) of your teeth.

Dr. Janeen Ferraro is excited to be affiliated with the Ocean Dental Community in Shrewsbury. Dr. Ferraro grew up in the Jersey Shore area. She attended college at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University and then completed post graduate training at Overlook Hospital in Summit.

Because of the shorter treatment time (four pre-timed 8-minute applications; half the time of other systems) and a temperature regulator that does not exceed 52°C on the tooth surface, teeth are not overheated nor excessively exposed to hydrogen peroxide.
