So, you've come up with the perfect new costume design, but there's one problem... You have no idea how to make it and send it to your customers! If this sounds like you, then you should keep reading and learn how to make it a technical package as part of the next step in the process. A technology package can be thought of as a blueprint for your product. It contains all the information needed to get your product produced and on the market. In this article, we will elaborate on the basic elements of creating a professional technology package.

What is a technical package?

A technical package, also known as a specification sheet, is a set of documents created by designers to explain their designs to manufacturers so that they can turn this information into a finished garment. It serves as a blueprint for the final garment, including detailed graphic design sketches, materials to be used such as decorations and labels, measurement specifications, size grading, color matching and other information. Basically, TechPack acts as an instruction manual to help turn a design into a product.

What does the technical package include?

Each technology package you create should include:

  1. Technical sketches show each design detail from different angles.
  2. Sample size and measurement.
  3. Construction details. These usually include diagrams with marked arrows indicating collars, door flaps, cuffs, fasteners, tack and art placement.
  4. Bill of Materials (BOM) It is a list of all the physical elements and their location on the garment. This includes all fabrics, buttons, tags, tags, plastic bags, thread, pads, linings, etc.
  5. Stitches and seams. This includes details such as stitches per inch, seam width, seam allowance and seam ISO number.
  6. Every page has a logo. Include your company name, sample size, date, changes made, request, and version on each page of your technical package.

Why is the technology package important?

It can help manufacturers understand design in a better way and help minimize errors and create the best product. If the manufacturer knows every precise detail about making a particular product, the manufacturer can easily and clearly understand the personnel, materials, and machinery required, so a more detailed technical package provides a more accurate estimate of price. Welon swimwear manufacturer is experienced in swimsuit manufacturing and knowing the technical kit helps keep track of details when ordering decorations, fabrics and other items. It acts as a contract between the manufacturer and the distributor. When the garment is ready, it helps to check that the measurements are made to detail. It also helps to check that labels, decorations, and many other things are placed correctly. Therefore, it acts as a quality control department. Making a technical package is certainly a critical task and takes a lot of time, but once this detailed technical package is made, it will definitely help save a lot of time and money. Every step of creating a product has some bugs that can be avoided with the help of this technical package.

How do I create a technical package

Microsoft Excel has been the de facto tool for creating technology packages for the fashion industry. It's versatile, feature-rich, and based on something very familiar: spreadsheets.

Cover pages can be created in Excel or a spreadsheet. The cover contains, your company name, style name/number, vendor, country of birth, date, completed color technical sketch, tracking changes, revisions, with text to specify design details. They also include every minute detail, such as stitching and trim. All technical sketches from all angles (front, back, side, interior) are usually drawn in software such as Adob E Illustrator, CorelDraw, etc. In addition, various trimming, stitching, labeling and other details are also drawn in these software. Once drawn, it is then transferred in Excel or a spreadsheet.

Each line, which may be a sketch, material, or measurement of your design, is a card containing all relevant images, comments, and documents. At any time, with a single click, you can convert this viewpad into a PDF-ready technology package, and the visualization approach gives you a clear view of the entire product development process. You don't have to switch between tabs when scrutinizing or editing different parts of the technology package. Sketches, bills of materials, measurement points, costing, etc. - all visible on one page.

After completing the specification sheet and structural details, the next step is to make the grading sheet. This can also be created in Excel or a spreadsheet. One advantage of using Excel or spreadsheets is that we can easily rate them automatically. But for that, we need a patternmaker, which Excel calculates automatically.

You might want to consider creating a master list for each physical item needed to make the final costume, which can be easily made in Excel or a spreadsheet. While creating technical sketches instead of making them black and white, we can make them colorful to make colorful specifications and add the same fabric prints to create Artway specifications and add some prints in contrasting colors.

Because the technical package is the primary document used to create the design, it can also be used to add comments, revisions, and changes. So, you can add the same tables where you need them. You can make a template for this and then add it wherever you need it to keep the technical package organized.
